This is President’s Club, brought to you by Jayden’s Mechanical and today we’re featuring Herb Pierce, President of the Melbourne Agricultural Society. The Society has been around since 1910 and this is Pierce’s 2nd year as President. His career with the Ag Society started about 50 years ago, in his 4H years.
Pierce says the President’s responsible for overseeing functions and organizing meetings. They keep community oriented and rent out the agricultural hall for private functions like weddings and meetings. And they have a popular event in August…their annual beef show which has gone from a one-day to a two-day show working with the Glencoe 4H Swine Club.
Pierce says last year they also reached a partnership with a local sports organization to start up minor ball again plus horse shows.
The Ag Society also made a deal with Strathroy-Caradoc regarding the former equipment and fencing and structures of the Red Valley Saddle Club, which was at the Fairgrounds Recreation Complex in Strathroy. They’re moving all of it to the Melbourne Fairgrounds this year.
