This week marked significant achievements for Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital (SMGH) and its Foundation. The Middlesex Hospital Alliance celebrated the delivery of the community’s first MRI machine, a pivotal step in enhancing local healthcare. The machine will provide detailed 3D imaging, crucial for diagnosing health conditions, detecting diseases, and monitoring treatments.
SMGH was selected for operational funding by Ontario Health in January 2023, but funding for the MRI machine and necessary renovations was not included. Despite this, the MRI project remains on-time and on-budget, with patient scans expected to begin in March.
Julie McBrien, President & CEO of the Middlesex Hospital Alliance and Interim CEO of the SMGH Foundation, expressed excitement over the milestone, highlighting the organization’s commitment to advancing care.
“Our teams have been hard at work on the MRI suite here at SMGH over the past year and the delivery of the
machine was a very exciting day. The MRI project is on-time and on-budget, and we are planning for the
first patient scans in the MRI to happen in March. An MRI for our community is an example of the MHA delivering on our strategic priority and commitment to “Advance How We Deliver Care.”
Also this week, the SMGH Foundation announced Michelle Hancock as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective February 3, 2025. With over 20 years of experience in healthcare philanthropy and strategic planning, Hancock has led transformative initiatives that deeply impacted communities.
The Foundation also extended gratitude to Julie McBrien for her leadership during this period of transition. These milestones reflect the hospital and Foundation’s dedication to improving health and well-being in the community.
