Anyone in Peterborough who drinks Silk or Great Value brand plant-based refrigerated beverages should take note.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has announced a recall of several drinks due to concerns over Listeria contamination.
The recall encompasses Silk brand almond milk, coconut milk, almond-coconut milk, and oat milk, as well as Great Value brand almond milk. This action follows an investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak, with reported illnesses linked to the consumption of these products.
The CFIA advises that anyone who believes they may have fallen ill after consuming any of the recalled products, which have best-before dates up to and including October 4th, should seek medical advice. Symptoms of Listeria infection can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache, and neck stiffness.
Consumers are urged to dispose of the recalled products or return them to the place of purchase. The CFIA emphasizes that food contaminated with Listeria may not exhibit any signs of spoilage but can still pose serious health risks.
