An update now on the collision that took out a good portion of the Sleepy Hollow Railway train station early Monday morning. As myFM was first to report the story online, the Sleepy Hollow Railway House on Metcalfe Street, was hit by a vehicle, where a youth under 18 has been charged with impaired driving. The railway has been operated by the Strathroy Model Railroad Engineers for about 5 years now and offering up to 10,000 rides per season.
Despite the estimated $15,000 in damages including to a vintage caboose, railway volunteers have said the primary engines and about 900 feet of track remain intact, and they expect to resume operating by this Saturday, albeit with fewer cars available for children. Community Services Director Rob Lilbourne also reported to local media stating that repairs to the station’s exterior would be completed by the week’s end, just in time for upcoming events like Ribfest happening at the Fairgrounds Recreation Complex.
