The City of Peterborough is preparing to light up the night sky on Canada Day with a fireworks display over Little Lake. Scheduled from 9:30 pm to 10 pm, the fireworks will go off immediately following the Peterborough Musicfest concert at Del Crary Park (featuring Tragically Hip tribute band, the Road Apples).
To ensure everyone’s safety and enjoyment, temporary road closures will be implemented on Crescent Street near the t-wharf before and during the event. While local traffic access will be maintained, residents are urged to adhere to on-street parking regulations and avoid blocking fire hydrants and driveways.
City officials are also reminding residents about the responsible use of fireworks. While family or casual fireworks are permitted on private property in accordance with city by-laws, larger exhibition-style displays require a permit and cannot be discharged on city property. Moreover, residents are urged to prioritize safety by taking necessary precautions to prevent injuries or property damage, while also adhering to the Noise By-law.
Peterborough Fire Services emphasizes the importance of adult supervision and proper handling of fireworks, urging individuals to keep water sources nearby and maintain a safe distance from combustible materials and onlookers during the display. Furthermore, parents are advised to closely monitor children, keeping sparklers out of reach due to the risk of burns and eye injuries.
