The local public school board is taking steps to ease student capacity pressures experienced at Kaawaate East City Public School.
Come this September, the school will revert to a JK to Grade 6 dual-track school, and a grades 7 and 8 English stream, from its current JK to Grade 8 dual-track school. In addition, grade 7 and 8 French Immersion students will attend Adam Scott Intermediate School.
The board says Kaawaate East City is forecasted to be at 125 percent of existing capacity in September, 847 students in a space that can take in 675 students. These adjustment will relieve that capacity pressure.
In other KPRDSB news, trustees approved a plan to transition from the current extended French program to French immersion in Northumberland schools beginning in September.
