The City of Peterborough has installed a 35-foot-tall tree in Quaker Foods City Square on Charlotte Street. The addition of the tree, sourced from Ennismore, aims to enhance the downtown community space which is known for its winter outdoor skating activities. A tree lighting ceremony is scheduled for Friday, December 15th, at 5:30 p.m. More details on the event are set to be released by the city in the coming weeks.
Mayor Jeff Leal expressed excitement about the upcoming festivities, stating, “The tree will add to the festive spirit and vibrancy. I look forward to celebrating the season with the community at the upcoming tree lighting event.”
Quaker Foods City Square, operational since December 2022, serves as a year-round venue for community events and family-friendly features, including a refrigerated outdoor skating rink in winter.
The skating rink is expected to open by mid-December, weather permitting, with city staff currently preparing the site and monitoring conditions for safe ice. Updates and operational information will be available online.
