In a heartwarming act of generosity, the Rotary Club of Peterborough-Kawartha has transformed the YMCA of Central East Ontario Balsillie Family Branch’s swimming experience. With a gracious donation, the YMCA has acquired a state-of-the-art aquatic wheelchair, ushering in a new era of inclusivity and accessibility for their members and guests.
The specialized aquatic wheelchair represents a beacon of hope for individuals with mobility challenges, offering them a smoother entry into the sparkling waters of the YMCA’s swimming pools. This gift has set the stage for a more comfortable and joyful aquatic experience, transcending age barriers, and catering to pool users of all ages.
Shannon Hunter, the Regional Supervisor of Aquatics and Camp, expressed her excitement about this transformative addition, saying, “We are thrilled to have a new small chair to access the pool. Our members who are users of a chair can have some comfort in ways of entering the pool. This chair is great for adults and children. The old chair was not fit for use anymore, and we are so thankful that people can still enter our lap pool and therapy pool.”
Now, with the new aquatic wheelchair in place, members can simply approach the lifeguards on duty to gain access to this invaluable resource. The Rotary Club of Peterborough-Kawartha’s thoughtful donation has undeniably enriched the YMCA’s pool facilities, opening up a world of aqua-adventures for everyone in the community.
