Coming up on Thursday,, the Strathroy Library will be hosting an open house to welcome all newcomers to Canada from 6 to 7:30pm. Nadine Devin with EarlyON says the Ontario Government has declared almost two weeks in September as Welcome Week and the library jumped at the opportunity to participate.
Devin says there has been an increase of people coming to Canada so it is important to host an event like this.
There will be two open houses happening in the area as Komoka will also play host to an open house this week on Tuesday.
An event like this also allows the library to highlight all it does for the community.
There will also be many public services at the event to show support to newcomers such as YMCA Strathroy.
Devin says the EarlyON team will be on location to plan activities for children coming to the open house. The library is also looking for donations of winter gear to help keep newcomers to Canada warm this coming winter season.
Things like hats, coats, mittens and boats can be brought to the Strathroy-Caradoc Library.
