Fireworks are a bright display of colour and are often used in times of great celebration or holidays.
However, fireworks are often set off throughout the year, without the proper knowledge.
The Strathroy-Caradoc Police Service, The Strathroy-Caradoc Fire Department and The Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc are reminding residents of the rules surrounding the discharge of fireworks.
Fireworks may only be discharged between dusk and 11 pm local time on days when holidays such as Victoria Day and Canada Day are celebrated, or as otherwise authorized by the Strathroy-Caradoc Council.
Any individuals under the age of 18 are prohibited from igniting fireworks of any kind.
The Director of Fire Services/Fire Chief has the authority to grant permits for the discharge of fireworks on municipal lands, provided all stipulations of the by-law are met.
Permit holders must also possess a valid fireworks supervisor’s card.
Any fireworks presentation on municipal lands requires written consent by the council.
Permit applicants must hold commercial general liability insurance, equal to $2 million per occurrence, encompassing bodily injury, death, and property damage.
The insurance should name both the applicant and the Corporation of the Municipality of Strathroy Caradoc as additional insured parties.
Anyone seeking a fireworks permit must inform neighboring property owners about event prior to submitting the permit application.
A permit application fee of $25 per event is mandatory, payable to the Strathroy Caradoc Fire Department.
The fee must be submitted with the permit application.
These regulations are in place to ensure the safe and responsible enjoyment of fireworks within the Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc.
