The Peterborough Lakers came out with a 12-9 home win over the Brooklin Lacrosse Club in game 1 of their best-of-seven MSL playoff series last night. Seven of the Lakers goals came on special teams, with five coming on the powerplay and two being scored while shorthanded.
Eli McLaughlin had a standout performance, playing in his first playoff game as a Laker, leading the offense with three goals and three assists.
Holden Cattoni, the regular season scoring leader, continued his impressive form, contributing three goals to the win.
Josh Currier also played a pivotal role with two goals and two assists.
Additionally, the Lakers saw some exceptional playmaking from Turner Evans and Thomas Hoggarth, who both registered a goal and four assists.
Matt Gilray and Austin Hasen rounded out the scoring, each chipping in a goal apiece.
Landon Kells stood tall in goal for the Lakers, making an impressive 46 saves to secure the win.
With this victory, the Lakers now hold a 1-0 series lead, with game 2 set for 8pm tonight at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena in Whitby.
The series shifts back to Peterborough for game three on Sunday at 7pm.
