This Summer will be 9 years since residents of Strathroy could visibly see any community project around with the Strathroy Lions Club logo. That is until later this summer as fresh off the approval last week from council, the Strathroy Lions will introduce their newest community project being a Disc Golf Course in Strathroy’s Centennial park with the intention of it being a 9-hole course with the capability to be an 18-hole course in the future. Lions President Mark Iggulden says from a Lions perspective returning to the public eye and being in the public eye by way of a community project is without question what they have missed being a part of.
Director of Community Services Rob Lilbourne says the project will be called the Strathroy Lions Disc Golf Course.
Lions President Iggulden says everything from the location to the cost to the type of sport itself just fit for them.
The process began a while ago but Centennial wasn’t the original target area. The original proposal was for Alexandra Park but with that park being so active, those involved thought another place may be suitable. The Lions club will install all of the signage for the project including awareness signs both from the skatepark end of Centennial Park in addition to the Rotary Trail entrance at the Victoria Street bridge end of the park.
