Strathroy’s newest recreational spot, The All Wheels Skate park is changing up its layout a bit before construction on it begins in April. Presented as information to Council this week, a revised layout of the park was needed due to making the entire park a little safer once completed. Director of Community Services Rob Lilbourne says they had some trouble with the new design, but it’s on track now, with no delays or change in cost.
Lilbourne says it’s very nice to see a project that began many years ago come to fruition.
Construction is scheduled to start in April and be completed mid-to-late June, weather dependent. The revision of this park became necessary after trying to finalize the placement while further increasing the safety of the park. The revised layout is more accommodating to the future plans of the Fairgrounds Recreation Complex and provides greater safety with providing better access and egress of participants.
The overall cost for the park construction is about $825,000, which with October’s allocation is now comprised of a Rotary Club commitment of $200,000, the $200,000 allocated in Oct 2021 from the Community Build Fund formerly the gas tax fund, and also $425,000 which council had already allocated before. The project is to be tendered out later this fall or early winter to hopefully ensure a completed park for use in the summer of 2022.
