Strathroy woman Meggin Van Hoof charged with manslaughter in the death of toddler Nathaniel McLellan of Parkhill back in 2015 has been released on bail including with several conditions. The 42-year-old appeared in court and was released late Wednesday with the allegations not having been tested in court yet. She appeared in front of Justice of the Peace Kristine Diaz who placed a publication ban over the police information filed in the case. The ban is a section of the criminal code designed to protect a victim or witness’s identity. Nathaniel’s story was written as a series 11 days ago by the Toronto Star who will challenge the ban in court this week. The next appearance in court for Van Hoof is July 15th in London. Conditions of her release can be found at our website.
She was released on the following conditions:
Van Hoof is not to possess weapons of any kind, she must stay at least 200 metres from any place where the McLellan family (parents Rose-Anne and Kent and their five children) live, work or go to school. Further, the bail conditions state Van Hoof must not contact the McLellan family “directly or indirectly” and must stay at least 25 metres from the McLellans, unless it is during a court appearance.
If she fails to abide by these conditions, Van Hoof must pay $10,000 to the court.
