Strathroy-Caradoc Council has confirmed a preference for donating a parcel of land on Brennan Drive to Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital Foundation. Councillor John Brennan who is also Chairman of the Foundations says the preferred option that Council decided to move forward with this week, is to donate a portion of 61 Brennan Drive which will eventually include a potential extension of the street to the west for a future connection to a new subdivision.
As for some previous public concerns about using the vacant land which was at one time a park, Brennan points to the investments being made in other parks in town such as the incoming upgrades to Saulsbury Park just 2 blocks away.
Some residents have said since myFM ran the initial story back in March, that a new park would make better use for the public. Councillor Brennan
says eventually Brennan Drive will have to be extended west.
Brennan says it came down to a choice between competing options.
The value of the land from the municipality, will substitute for the town’s annual $100,000 contribution to the Hospital Foundation. The Foundation would then be free to build on that property, and then sell and use the proceeds to help pay for a new digital radiology suite at the hospital.
