27 years in teaching for Principal John Marinelli from Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School in Strathroy. He didn’t hesitate when myFM asked him what his biggest influence was, quickly responding that two of his family members made a big impact on him growing up.
Marinelli also described many summers as a teen and into university, during which he worked at a summer camp and the love for teaching grew. He takes great pride in watching the progression of students and seeing what they are capable of.
Marinelli has also joked about his lengthy tenure when describing now working with former students.
While every teaching career is full of obstacles, Marinelli admits there’s been no challenge quite like the COVID-19 pandemic, and details the loss of many exciting events that have made it a difficult year for educators and students alike.
He concluded that there’s only one reason to go into teaching which is an undeniable passion.
Marinelli has moved locations over 8 times in his career, and feels he’s been able to give back to the system.
