Third generation chicken farmer Martin Welch Jr. didn’t picture doing anything else with his life as his love for agriculture was ingrained in him growing up. Tending to the chickens and making sure they’re healthy and cared for is where his passion lies, to ensure a safe and delicious meal for the consumer. Automation has its place in farming, Welch Jr. believes, but it can’t replace everything.
When it comes to inspiring the next generation, Welch Jr. doesn’t need to look any further than his own kin, as he hopes his son follows his footsteps and continues the family business. If he doesn’t however, Welch Jr. is perfectly okay with that too.
He’s not sure where the agriculture field will land over the next decade, as the start up costs continue to climb. But one thing he said is for certain: those who get into the life are looking out for the rest of Canada, and following strict health and safety guidelines along the way.
