The Women’s Rural Resource Centre is beginning an online campaign to highlight the danger some women find themselves in because of COVID-19. WRRC Executive Director Corey Allison says the advice to stay home and stay safe doesn’t ring true for everyone, when in fact it has the complete opposite effect for some.
Allison says recent numbers from Stats Canada state 1 in 10 women are scared in their home and are afraid of violence, and the danger’s only increased because of COVID-19. She encourages women to lean on supportive friends and family as well as the WRRC through online platforms, and leave the home if you must. The WRRC campaign highlights signs for recognizing abuse and how to respond accordingly. Each week they focus on one element on their Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
