Alan Bruno (Board Member and Coach with Mount Brydges Minor Hockey)
Alan Bruno is a busy man within the confines of the Mt. Brydges Cougars Minor Hockey Association. Bruno sits on the Association’s board as the coaching convenor and is on the bench behind two teams. His passion for teaching the game came from his playing experiences, as he said he had lots of great coaches growing up. It’s a way for Bruno to give back to the community while also teaching why that’s important to his own kids, he explained.
Bruno loves to see the development of the kids. Seeing those he taught at a very young age still around the arena over 10 years later he says it’s quite a sight. Simply put, he says parents are one of the biggest challenges. He feels some are too involved, and kids should be allowed the room to make the mistakes and learn from them. At the end of the day, it makes the child a better person, not just an athlete. If you want to be a coach, Bruno says to be fully dedicated and show respect to the referees, and the other teams. He said the kids come first and the parents come second.
