During the Easter long weekend, officers from the OPP West Region’s 13 detachments issued hundreds of seatbelt charges as part of their traffic enforcement campaign. From Friday, April 18 to Monday, April 21, 2025, a total of 338 seatbelt violations were recorded under Ontario’s seatbelt laws.
Last year, failure to wear a seatbelt played a role in the deaths of 60 people in collisions on OPP-patrolled roads, with 26 of those fatalities occurring in the West Region alone.
