On Monday evening, Michelle Wright, curator of Museum Strathroy-Caradoc, shared highlights from the Museum’s 2024 Year in Review with Strathroy-Caradoc Council. In 2024, the museum welcomed more than 20,000 visitors and engaged over 1,500 participants through its public programming.
A heartfelt tribute was given to longtime volunteer George Thompson, who officially retired after generously donating over 1,000 hours of service throughout the past ten years.
Exhibitions proved to be a major draw in 2024, with five featured gallery displays including a mix of traveling showcases and exhibits curated in-house. Looking ahead, a new permanent exhibit titled “History of Strathroy-Caradoc” is being developed for the lobby space. The museum’s collection continues to expand, with 25 new artifacts added this year.
Special projects throughout the year included updates to the Middlesex Heritage Trail signage, the restoration of a 1880s printing press, and, of course, the Strathroy-Caradoc Poppy Project. This remarkable initiative saw the creation and donation of over 10,000 poppies, sparking an overwhelmingly positive response locally and beyond. The project was featured at Queen’s Park, thanks to Steve Pinsonneault’s efforts, and brought together volunteers and communities extending far beyond the Strathroy-Caradoc area.
