The Strathroy Rockets and Head Coach, Jason Williams, have decided to part ways. In a release this morning, the team thanked Jason for his hard work and dedication and wished him the best in the future.
myFM reached out to Rockets General Manager Andrew Ferlatte for comments on why the decision was made.
Ferlatte noted this was a mutual one and came as part of the transition in ownership. While specifics of the business side of things cannot be fully shared, the change was seen as necessary to move forward with the team.
Williams wrapped up his 5th full season as Head Coach of the Rockets, after joining the organization during the pandemic season. The former NHL player and Stanley Cup champion played for 10 years at the top level of hockey.
Ferlatte thanked Williams for all he has done for the organization over the years.
Now that the team is without a head coach, Ferlatte confirmed that the search is already underway. Several coaches have been considered, and the key is finding the right fit for the team’s identity.
Ferlatte noted the organization is not rushing the process, saying it’s important to bring in someone who shares the long-term vision for the team, with plans to grow the organization and compete for championships in the future.
Anyone interested in the position can contact General Manager Andrew Ferlatte at Andrew@StrathroyRockets.ca.
The Rockets noted they appreciate the ongoing support from their fans, players, and community as they move forward.
