The Old 29’ Part 5
RECAP
The Strathroy Firefighter’s Association is dedicated to supporting the community and preserving firefighting history. Currently, the Association is restoring Strathroy’s first motorized fire truck, a 1929 Ford Model A. Fundraising events will run throughout 2025 to support this effort.
In Part 5 of our story, we cover the many years that the Old ’29 has spent in and around our community.
Part 5 Truly a Part of Our Community.
Almost immediately upon its return to Strathroy, the Old ’29 was put back in service. This time, however, it would be different. No longer would the truck race through the streets to emergencies; instead, it would slow down and partake in many parades and community events around the province for the next 44 years.
Often during the Santa Claus Parade, the old truck could be seen being loaded with canned goods donated by parade-goers for the Salvation Army Foodbank. In other seasons, it could be found displayed at many car shows and other public events. When not busy, the truck has been stored in a back corner of the fire hall under a tarp, waiting to be brought out and polished up for its next public appearance.
Take a moment to enjoy the many photos that clearly demonstrate that the Old ’29 has truly become an prominent part of our community since its return in 1980.
Let’s celebrate our local fire service history together!
