The Tundra Swans have arrived at the Thedford Bog behind Lambton Heritage Museum, offering a stunning sight as they soar through the sky and call to one another. This annual migration is a sure sign of spring for many Lambton County residents.
Every year, these majestic birds stop in Lambton County as part of their 6,000-kilometer journey between Chesapeake Bay and the Canadian Arctic. In a good season, as many as 15,000 swans may rest in the bog, drawn by melting water and leftover corn from the previous year’s harvest. The number of swans in the area can change daily based on the time of day, weather, and field conditions.
To improve your chances of spotting them, visit returnoftheswans.com for daily updates or call the Lambton Heritage Museum at 519-243-2600. Don’t forget to bring binoculars for a closer view!
Visitors can also stop by the museum to explore the Return of the Swans exhibit, which features information about the Tundra Swans, the history of the Thedford Bog, and fun swan-themed activities. The exhibit is open Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Thursdays from 11:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and students, and $3 for children, while kids three and under get in free. For more details, follow Lambton Heritage Museum on Facebook or visit their website.
