Thursday was the kickoff to getting a hospice in the Strathroy-Caradoc area. A brand new board of directors, current donors and potential donors gathered at Caradoc Sands as Strathroy Hospice delivered its message to the community. Vice Chairperson Darren Micallef says they are off to a fantastic start already even though Thursday was their official kickoff.(Photo: Strathroy Hospice)
The target goal is $5 million and Micallef talks about what that would cover.
We also talked with Chairperson Tyler Damen who commented on the great start financially for the Hospice.(Photo: Strathroy Hospice)
As far as the name Strathroy Hospice, it was addressed by Damen Thursday that the name was only introduced to get the ball rolling with things like the Ministry and not-for-profit designation, and a final name is still down the road.
Right now they do have a location between Strathroy and Mount Brydges of private land but there’s still much red tape to go through including getting the parcel of land rezoned from its current agricultural status. (Photo: Not a definite depiction of what facility could look like)
Geography according to Micallef was a big reason why the group felt a hospice in the Strathroy-Caradoc area was much needed.
As we know Micallef used to head up Sprucedale in Strathroy, and when asked to jump on board with this venture, he felt it was the right fit.
Damen also added that there has been communication between the board and some residents about a possible naming right donation for the entire facility but those conversations are still very preliminary at this point according to Damen.
