From March 1 to April 4, 2025, OPP West Region will ramp up enforcement during the “Stay Focused” campaign, targeting inattentive driving. In 2024, 45 drivers lost their lives in West Region due to distracted driving—a 200% increase from 2023. Provincially, 80 fatalities were linked to inattentive driving, up 40% from the previous year.
Distracted driving includes using a phone, adjusting a GPS, eating, or tending to passengers. Penalties are severe, and officers will take a zero-tolerance approach. The OPP urges passengers to speak up and help prevent unnecessary tragedies on Ontario’s roads.
