A major step forward for skilled trades education in rural Ontario was celebrated with the grand opening of a state-of-the-art training centre at Strathroy’s high schools. The facility, which will serve the students of SDCI, HCC and local apprentices, was officially unveiled Wednesday afternoon.
Bill Dakin, Director of Finance for the municipality and project lead, expressed excitement about the centre’s impact.
The project began a few years ago when discussions with the province highlighted the need for more accessible skilled trades training in the community.
The training centre, located in the school’s technology wing and shared by both high schools, received support from the Government of Ontario for renovations and the installation of specialized equipment.
Dakin noted that this training centre is a major asset locally.
Heather Lalonde, Development Commissioner for Strathroy-Caradoc, was in attendance and highlighted the economic benefits of the centre.
Lalonde added that the facility has the potential for future expansion, further strengthening the regional economy.
The new training centre is expected to play a key role in developing a strong skilled trades workforce, benefiting students, apprentices, and businesses across the region.
