Adelaide Metcalfe Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire on Katesville Drive Monday around 11:30am. According to officials, fortunately, the farm owner and their family were home and detected the fire early. The owner quickly extinguished the flames using properly placed fire extinguishers. Firefighters conducted a thorough inspection of the barn for hotspots using a thermal imaging camera.
The fire was determined to have started when a heat lamp fell and broke into the straw, igniting a small blaze. The fire department reminds homeowners and farm operators to ensure heat sources and extension cords are securely positioned, especially during cold weather. Residents are urged to remain vigilant when using additional heat sources to prevent similar incidents.
