The first new case of bird flu in Ontario in nearly a year, has been found on a farm in Strathroy-Caradoc. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency confirmed the presence of highly-pathogenic avian influenza on a local farm on Monday.
With the unseasonably warmer weather we’ve been experiencing, wild birds continue to be on the move and we’re seeing increases in wild bird die offs, increasing the potential risk of disease transmission. As of December 18th, there are 85 active cases across the country, with 73 in B.C. alone.
Bird flu can infect multiple species of domestic chickens, turkeys, quails, and guinea fowl, as well as wild and pet birds.
