On Sunday, just before 9am, Strathroy-Caradoc Fire Department responded to a report of a balcony fire at an apartment building on Albert Street. Stations 1 and 2 arrived at the scene where they found that Police had already used portable fire extinguishers to put out the flames. Upon further investigation, fire crews discovered three separate balcony fires.
They conducted a thorough inspection of the building, checking for any additional damage, and ventilated the structure to clear lingering smoke. Fortunately, there were no injuries, and the damage to the building was minimal. Strathroy-Caradoc Fire determined the cause of the fires to be careless smoking. The SCFD is reminding all residents to always properly extinguish cigarettes in large, deep ashtrays to prevent such incidents.
