The Labour Day long weekend turned tragic, with seven people losing their lives in separate collisions within OPP jurisdictions, including two pedestrians, a motorcyclist, and an off-road vehicle driver. Despite efforts by the OPP to keep roads safe, officers issued a total of 9,143 traffic, marine, and Criminal Code charges throughout the province. Aggressive driving was a major concern, putting many families and travelers at risk as they enjoyed the final long weekend of summer. Of the charges laid, 4,841 were for speeding, and 124 were for stunt driving or racing.
