In conjunction with the 20th anniversary of the July 2004 flood that devastated parts of Peterborough, the City has launched an online overview and maps detailing what happened, and what steps have been taken to reduce the risk of a similar catastrophe.
Watershed: A Turning Point, available at peterborough.ca/2004flood, recounts the flood disaster and what steps have been taken since to mitigate the risk of another flood doing similar damage. Links to Flood Reduction Master Plans since adopted, flood simulations maps, a listing of city flood services and an emergency preparedness checklist are featured.
Damage in excess of $100 million was caused to private property and city infrastructure as a result of the flood caused by 10 inches of rain falling within a few hours.
