A stretch of Highway 402 near Watford has reopened after being closed due to flooding from record-breaking rainfall on Tuesday. Water surged over the highway, leading provincial police to shut down the eastbound lanes at Nauvoo Road and the westbound lanes at Kerwood Road, approximately 20 km west of Strathroy.
“Flooding can obscure the road surface, making it difficult to see potholes and debris,” said OPP Const. Jeanine Robertson in an emailed statement about the closure. “The highway was closed due to two feet of rushing water covering the roadway.”
Authorities urged drivers to seek alternate routes and avoid the closed sections. The highway reopened shortly before 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, according to police.
