In response to an extended heat warning issued by Peterborough Public Health, the Trinity Community Centre is extending its hours. From today through Thursday, the Centre will be open from 9 am to 7 pm to provide respite from the extreme temperatures forecasted for the area.
Emergency shelters for the homeless are available at locations including YES Shelter for Youth, Brock Mission Men’s Shelter, Cameron House Women’s Shelter, and the Trinity Community Centre Overnight Service. After-hours emergency services related to shelter needs can be accessed by calling 705-926-0096. More information is available on the Peterborough Social Services website.
The city has also made outdoor water bottle filling stations available at several locations, including Quaker Foods City Square, Eastgate Park, and Peterborough Marina. Indoor refill stations are accessible at the Peterborough Public Library, Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre, Healthy Planet Arena, and Kinsmen Civic Centre during operating hours.
Additionally, splash pads across the city will be open daily from 9 am to 8 pm at sites such as Rogers Cove, Nicholls Oval Park, King Edward Park, and others.
For those looking to cool off at the beach, public beaches at Beavermead Park and Rogers Cove are open, though lifeguard services will not begin until June 29th. Regular beach water testing results can be found on the Peterborough Public Health website or by contacting them directly.
