This week at Strathroy-Caradoc Council, a discussion around potential future residential development turned quickly into the possibility of removing a long standing municipal road bandaid for a solution more permanent. Council received a report for information only on an Official Plan Amendment and Zoning By-law Amendment for a potential future residential build featuring 26 townhouse dwelling units that would be single floor with no basements.
There would be single access for the development from the current Locke Heights area and the units would be accessed through an internal private street network. A public open house was held on April 3rd, 2024, and the municipality received comments both expressing support and concerns regarding the application.
Through council discussion a more long standing issue arose being the current state of Hull Road, a narrow, 2-way, hilly road with no sidewalks and Councllior Steve Pelkman chimed in on this.
The one way traffic would incorporate using Hull Road for one direction and Pannell Lane going the opposite direction, and Councllor John Brennan expressed the need to figure this issue out. Brennan added, it doesn’t matter if you’re developing in that area or not, the problem that Hull Road continues to present will not go away.
Many residents of the Locke Heights and Hull Road area were present at council to express concerns with Council eventually receiving the information with plenty more discussion to come.
