As the days pass, the anticipation grows in Lambton-Kent-Middlesex as the community eagerly awaits the selection of the next Member of Provincial Parliament, following the resignation of Monte McNaughton from the position late last year.
On May 2nd, residents of Lambton-Kent-Middlesex will have the opportunity to cast their votes and choose the next MPP. Andraena Tilgner is stepping up as the candidate representing the Green Party in this election.
Tilgner says her journey from British Columbia to Ontario has been one of embracing community and advocating for change. Having grown up surrounded by the beauty of British Columbia, Tilgner says she developed a strong connection to the outdoors. In 1998, she moved to Ontario to pursue her studies at Western University, where she earned a degree in health sciences. Later, she honed her skills as a registered respiratory therapist at Fanshawe College, dedicating the past 19 years to providing essential healthcare services to her community.
As a frontline healthcare worker, she says she has witnessed the shortcomings of Ontario’s healthcare system firsthand. These experiences fueled her decision to enter politics and run in the Lambton-Kent-Middlesex by-election. Tilgner says the Greens’ vision of prioritizing people over profits resonated deeply with her, motivating her to step forward and advocate for meaningful change.
Tilgner says her campaign focuses on three key platform items that are crucial for the well-being of Ontarians. First, she emphasizes the importance of addressing the housing crisis by advocating for more affordable and supportive housing options. Secondly, she highlights the urgency of tackling climate change through a comprehensive climate action plan that benefits individuals and the environment alike. Lastly, Tilgner says she is committed to revitalizing Ontario’s healthcare system by ensuring proper funding across all healthcare sectors and implementing strategies to support healthcare workers.
Despite not having a campaign office, she encourages voters to reach out to her through the Green Party of Ontario’s website Andraena Tilgner | Ontario Greens (gpo.ca)or via email at lkm@gpo.ca. She believes that now, more than ever, Ontario needs leaders who are dedicated to delivering real change and improving the lives of its residents.
