The Canadian policing community is mourning the death of a former OPP commissioner who, for a time, served as a provincial appointee to the Peterborough-Lakefield Police Services Board.
Thomas O’Grady died April 16th at the age of 86.
O’Grady began his policing career with the RCMP in Cornerbrook, Newfoundland before coming to Ontario where he served with municipal police forces. In 1962, he joined the OPP and served until 1998 – a distinguished career marked by his 10 years as OPP commissioner from 1988 until his retirement.
A member of the Order of Canada and a recipient of the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal, O’Grady graduated from the FBI’s National Academy and served as president of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police.
A funeral service for O’Grady will be held April 27th, 11 a.m., in Peterborough at St. Anne’s Church
