As people gear up for the total solar eclipse this afternoon, some are wondering now if their eyes will be properly protected. Recently, Amazon issued a recall for certain eclipse glasses that have not been approved by the American Astronomical Society. Strathroy resident Donna Schmoll brought her concerns to myFM’s attention Friday, after purchasing purple eclipse glasses from our local Canadian Tire…that are the same as a pair not being recommended.
She was initially concerned since the glasses had a disclaimer on them. They also have NASA approved written on them….and NASA says they do not endorse any glasses.
A spokesperson for Head Office of Canadian Tire told myFM in an email “we can confirm that the solar eclipse glasses sold in our stores have been independently tested by a third-party laboratory and conform to the requirements of ISO 12312-2.”
