The Holy Cross Hurricane girls’ hockey team triumphed at the OFSAA A/AA Hockey Championship, winning the gold medal with a thrilling 2-1 victory over the two-time defending champion St. David Celtics from Waterloo.
Molly Farace scored the opening goal for the Hurricanes, unassisted, while Claire Chambers notched the eventual game-winner, assisted by Jordyn Scott and Megan Bell. Isabelle Urie made 22 saves in net to secure the win for Holy Cross.
Along with Farace, Chambers, Scott, Bell and Urie, the gold medal team consisted of Olivia Cote, Annalise MacPhee, Abbi Brumwell, Lily Merrick, Ashley Yantha, Kira Graham, Katie Belk, Olivia Mercer, Grace Plunkett, Brooklyn Tulk, Macy Harper, Hannah Meecham, Kali Dearmer, and Olivia Desautel, led by coaches Jaden Gates, Craig Hulsman and Ian Murray, along with team manager Nataya Galvin.
The win was a historic one, marking the first time that a Holy Cross Hurricanes hockey team has won an OFSAA gold medal.
