In 2022, Coldstream Concrete faced a $75,000 fine following a workplace collision that critically injured a worker. The incident occurred on July 25th, 2022, and according to a release this week from the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development, the worker, while using a forklift to move a piece of concrete, collided with a front-end loader exiting the building’s casting area, and the operator sustaining critical injuries. An investigation revealed the collision could have been prevented with a traffic management plan.
The company pleaded guilty earlier this month and was fined $75,000, with an additional 25 per cent victim surcharge. This was the second time that the company faced consequences for workplace safety issues, as back in 2017, it was fined $75,000 following an incident where a London man lost his right arm while inspecting cement structures.
