Looks like the front doors of Strathroy-Caradoc’s town hall will be open again to the public in early March. This week, Council was presented with four options to consider which were focused on path of public travel, maintaining service quality and safety. Council approved option 2 which will see the public enter through the front doors, go down the hallway to the elevator, then downstairs to customer service. The estimated cost involved would be between $20,100 to $25,300 including tempered glass installation, closing in of two former service counters, fob readers on staff and office doors, emergency exit integration and signage.
As far as timeline, back in January, part of the original motion presented by Deputy Mayor Mike McGuire stated the completion to come within 30 days of the passing of the motion. The motion was passed the week of February 5th which leaves us somewhere around March 6th for completion. Here is the full report plus details on all other options that were presented.
Option #1
The public enters through the front door and is then directed down the stairs to the lower level, through the hallway and to the customer service desk.
The following alterations will be required:
Installation of tempered glass in three doors = $150-$200 x 3 = $450 – $60
Installation of fob reader on staff/office doors – $2,500 x 3 = $7,500
Signage & Window Film – new internal signage – $3,000- $5,000
Option #2
The public enters through the front doors and is then directed down the hallway to the elevator, to the lower level customer service desk.
The following alterations will be required:
Installation of tempered glass in 4 doors = $150 – $200 x 4 = $600 – $800
Closing in of two former service counters (drywall, insulation) – $1,000 x 2 = $2,000
Installation of fob reader on staff/office doors – $2,500 x 5 = $12,500
Emergency exit integration – $2,000-$5,000
Signage & Window Film – new internal signage – $3,000 – $5,000
In consultation with the Deputy Fire Chief, emergency exits must be accessible and cannot be located behind a locked door. As there are doors that would need to be secured between public and staff space, a fob system is the method that can release the locking mechanism in the event of a fire alarm.
Option #3
The public enters through the front doors and has access to the front vestibule and the Mayor’s office (when available).
The following alterations will be required:
Installation of fob reader on hallway door – $2,500
Signage & Window Film- $350 – $700
Option #4
Other, as directed by Council
