A Peterborough based charitable foundation has gifted money to the The Mount Community Centre, clearing the way for the construction of 11 more affordable apartments at the Monaghan Road development.
The Remembering Otto and Marie Pick Charitable Foundation is providing an undisclosed amount as part of what it calls Operation Upstream and its goal of helping un-housed and homeless people before they need hospital-based supports.
The couple’s son, Martin Pick, says he and his wife Denise have lived in Peterborough for 30 years – long enough to know housing the homeless is a priority challenge that must be addressed now.
Pick says the Peterborough Regional Health Centre has been a major benefactor of the foundation’s generosity but not the only one.
With the development of the 11 new apartments funded by the foundation, The Mount’s main building complement of 79 units will be complete.
