Interesting developments this week at Strathroy-Caradoc Council where three notices of motion were presented and will be discussed at the next council meeting. One of those motions was from Deputy Mayor Mike McGuire for Council to direct the CAO to do the following.
- Unlock the front doors of Town Hall during normal business hours
- Have the front doors unlocked one half hour before all scheduled Council and Committee meetings
- To have the blue film on the front doors removed
- For all of this to be completed within 30 days of the passing of the motion.
Now if you remember, in June myFM did a story with Mayor Colin Grantham about this very subject, because opening the front foors after they were closed during the pandemic was one of the election platform items for the wouldbe Mayor. Grantham had told myFM the doors would remain closed as security issues came to the forefront since the election. Deputy Mayor McGuire acknowledges those comments but believes safety can still be managed.
McGuire says keeping the front doors closed simply does not make any sense.
When asked if he thought he would garner support for this motion in a couple of weeks, he said he thinks he can.
He says it’s been an issue of his since his election campaign, and he is bringing it forward now because during the first year there were many issues that needed to take priority, and he felt now was the right time.
