Back on September 22nd, news broke that Monte McNaughton resigned as PC MPP for the riding of Lambton-Kent-Middlesex and instead will take a job in the private sector. Since then, the riding has been without an MPP, and no word yet from the Premier on a date of a bi-election. Putting his name into the ring for the PC nomination is Middlesex London Paramedic Chief Neal Roberts, who has a proud history of serving the community, and says McNaughton did an amazing job as MPP and that is one of the reasons he put his name in as a contender.
Chief Roberts has made his intentions clear as to what he would like to accomplish in the future if given the chance as MPP, including, expanding highspeed broadband internet, improving quality and timely access to healthcare and increasing natural gas availability.
Not only is he a former business owner and also Past President of the Ontario Association of Paramedic Chiefs, Chief Roberts also brings more than 40 years of senior leadership experience in the private, municipal, and provincial sectors. He was also recently honoured with the Governor General Emergency Medical Services Exemplary Service Medal for 40 years of dedication. Chief Roberts may currently work in the medical field, but he is no stranger when it comes to politics.
Chief Roberts says the time is now to continue to serve the community.
The deadline for a candidate to come forward has now passed, however the deadline to sign up members for the PC party to be eligible to vote is January 8th. Voting to select the PC candidate for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex will start on January 27th.
