Rail Safety Week takes place September 18th-24th and in honour of the week, both this Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m to 3 p.m., Railroad Safety Day returns to the Sleepy Hollow Railroad at the Fairgrounds Recreation Complex. The two-day event features model train displays, railway-related vendors, and more, and Chad Smith, a volunteer with the Strathroy Model Railroad Engineers says it is easy to forget the laws surrounding train tracks and that’s why this event is so important. He says there will be police officers from VIA Rail present at the event to talk about safety around railroads.
All rides and entry into the model train displays over the two days are by donation and all money raised goes towards the maintenance and future upgrades to the Sleepy Hollow Railroad
Smith says that the Strathroy Model Railroad Engineers have many hopes for the future of the railway, including an expansion of the railway.
Also featured at this years event is HO and N scale model train displays inside the West Middlesex Memorial Centre, plus there will be a live steam locomotive pulling trains on Saturday only.
