The Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc is hiring those looking to become a crossing guard in Strathroy and Mount Brydges. Crossing Guards ensure the safety of students crossing roads to and from school by carefully observing traffic patterns and guiding the students across the areas.
Crossing Guards typically work for approximately two hours a day, with one hour in the morning and one hour in the afternoon, from Monday to Friday, throughout the public school year. The specific work hours are determined based on the assigned area.
The responsibilities of a Crossing Guard include:
Safely assisting students during their journeys to and from school while crossing roadways and intersections, monitoring traffic flow and identifying suitable gaps to guide students across roadways or intersections, effectively communicating traffic regulations and crossing guidelines to both students and adults in a constructive and clear manner, ensuring that knowledge and skills remain up-to-date through participation in job-related training, maintaining a well-groomed, tidy appearance and consistently wearing the provided safety attire, demonstrating exceptional customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills, possessing an energetic and positive attitude, as well as the ability to work independently, prioritizing safety and exercising sound judgment in all responsibilities, as well as understand and adhering to the policies and procedures of the Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
In order to apply you must have the ability to work one (1) hour in the morning and/or afternoon, stand/walk for a minimum of sixty (60) consecutive minutes, work in an outdoor environment including extreme temperatures and adverse weather conditions, have the ability to extend an arm out parallel to shoulder height holding a “STOP” sign (approximately 1 pound), and the flexibility to accept last-minute shifts considered an asset.
First Aid / CPR certification is also considered an asset.
