The OPP Marine Unit has a message for everyone planning on enjoying the water this long weekend, and it’s one you’ve heard many times before: prepare for the worst once you’re out there.
Sergeant Dave Moffatt says no matter what time of the season it may be, it’s always a good time to issue an important reminder.
He says that means thinking of all possible scenarios you may encounter.
Moffatt adds that an invaluable resource is the safe boating guide from Transport Canada that provides an outline of all the equipment you should have on your vessel and how to prepare for emergencies.
He also stressed the importance of wearing life jackets, because they often mean the difference between life and death during emergencies.
