A joint operation between the Peterborough Police Service and Sault Ste. Marie Police Service has led to the arrest of a 34-year-old Barrie man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant. Eduardo ‘Tito’ Silva, the subject of the warrant, was taken into custody on Tuesday, following a two-hour standoff with police at a residence in Sault Ste. Marie.
Silva had been wanted in relation to a daylight shooting incident that resulted in the death of Shawn Singh on July 2, 2022, in Peterborough. The arrest was made at approximately 11:00 pm after a thorough operation involving law enforcement personnel from both police services.
Upon arrest, search warrants were executed at Silva’s residence in Sault Ste. Marie, leading to the filing of additional charges.
Silva is currently facing several charges in connection with the Peterborough homicide, including second-degree murder, discharging a restricted or prohibited firearm with intent, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order (X2), and carrying a firearm while committing an offence.
The successful collaboration between the two police services has highlighted the importance of inter-agency cooperation in resolving complex cases that span regional boundaries. Peterborough Police Chief Stuart Betts expressed gratitude towards the investigators and the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service for their collective efforts in bringing Silva to justice. Chief Hugh Stevenson of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service also commended the professionalism of the officers involved and acknowledged the teamwork that led to the arrest of a violent offender.
