Although being unofficially up and running and being used extensively over that time, the Strathroy All Wheels Skate Park at the Fairgrounds Recreation Complex had its official ribbon cutting ceremony Saturday with municipal and partner Strathroy Rotary Club representation on hand.
Mayor Colin Grantham says this project was thought about years ago and it’s great to see it finally here.
The project was estimated to have a cost of $825,000, with $200,000 coming from the Strathroy Rotary Club, the municipality covering the remainder after failing to receive an additional $200,000 in funding from the federal government.
Other donations came forward, being Entegrus donated $20,000, Aamjiwnaang Chippewas of Sarnia First Nations in partnership with Suncor Adelaide Wind Power Project donated $30,000, Mainstreet Credit Union donated $8000.
The park features a pump track along with a skate park freestyle area and is suited for all types of wheeled apparatus including skateboards, scooters, bikes and roller blades.
