Today all day on 105.7 myFM we are celebrating local community Fundraisers. Right now we are going to talk about the Period Equity Project which was originally started in London, but Chantal Baird a Teacher at St. Vincent de Paul School in Strathroy was given the honour to be the Coordinator locally.
The Project collects menstrual products to distribute to those who need them in the community, and Baird says that she believes the human race is one family, and noticed a need in the community and wanted to do something about it.
“I really believe we are all one human family. We go through times where we have privilege and life is going well and we also go through struggles.” says Baird, “No matter where we live or what we look like, what language we speak, or what religion we practice, I believe we’re all a human family and we need to help each other out.” she says.
Baird’s first big obstacle was finding people to support. She had a good amount of products but no one to give them to, so she reached out to several organizations and now distributes to 5 organizations/schools. The biggest obstacle now is making sure she has enough products, donations, and monetary donations. The Strathroy Period Equity Project does have an Amazon wish list if you would like to support the organization that way: https://www.amazon.ca/hz/wishlist/ls/3887OTOJPJPX9?ref_=wl_share
Baird says being a part of the organization is an honour.
myFM is also a supporter of the Period Equity Project, and if you have any donations you can stop in and drop them off at the studio.
